S.M.A.R.T Goals Setting


Goal Setting is a crucial part of focusing on what you want to achieve as part of Health, Fitness and wellness. By setting a goal you can develop a clear plan and strategy to achieve your dreams.

The first part of this plan is to ensure that your goals are SMART using the system below.


Specific – clearly define what you want to achieve. This could be short term (this week/month etc) or as part of the bigger picture. E.g. 2 stone weight loss by June or run the great north run?


Measurable – along with specific it has to be something that can be seen and taken note of. Measure dates, exact amounts and distances. Having something to measure keeps you on track and progressing towards your goal.


Attainable - Your goal must be something that you can reasonable achieve. If needs be break it down into bite size goals, each one attainable in a reasonable time frame leading to your dream.


Realistic – Make your goal something that fits in line with what you can achieve. Don’t waste time or energy on something that is unrealistic, your enthusiasm, focus and motivation will suffer as a result of under achieving.


Time – Keeping your goal within a realistic time frame or my setting a deadline allows you to stay motivated and on track.
